This film is an autobiographical reflection on fear under the Iranian surveillance state.
Due to his engagement with Kurdish language and culture, Jiyar Jahan Fard was expelled from high school under pressure from Iranian security forces. He turned to literature and politics, eventually completing his education in another province.
In Iran, non-Persian writers are often arrested on false charges simply for writing in their mother tongue. Jiyar was first detained in 2001 as a high school student and threatened for a day. In 2011, he was arrested again with seven other cultural activists and spent two months in solitary confinement, accused of "endangering national security" and ties to Kurdish parties. In 2016, after attending a conference on Kurdish folklore in Turkish Kurdistan, he was imprisoned for four months in Mardin.
